FILERS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: I've entered my Filer ID and registration key, but they don't work. How can I log in?
A: When entering your registration key, make sure that you aren't entering the letter "I" instead of the number "1" or vice versa. You should also make sure you aren't entering the letter "O" instead of the number "0". Enter your registration key in LOWERCASE only.

Q:I've logged in and created a password, but I can't remember it; how can I reset my password?
A: You can click on "Forgot your password?" and enter the email address you registered as your username so a new password can be generated and sent to you. Then once you get in, click on the change password link and update your password.

Q: Can I file online after the May 1 filing deadline?
A: No, the online portal closes at the end of the day on May 1. You will only be able to file a paper statement. Contact our office and we will advise.

Q: It is past the May 1 filing deadline, but I still need to file. What should I do?
A: Please call (630) 232-5950 for assistance.

Q: It is past the May 1 filing deadline and I have completed my filing, but I need to amend it. What should I do?
A: Please call (630) 232-5950.

Q: My position title is wrong, how can I correct it?
A: Please contact us at (630) 232-5950 for assistance with that change. Title refers to a job title, not "Mr., Mrs., Ms."

Q: My name is misspelled; how can I correct it?
A: Please contact us at (630) 232-5950 for assistance with that change.

Q: I don't believe I am required to file. What should I do?
A: Contact the appropriate administrator at your unit of government to address the issue.

Q: I think I should be required to file, but I never received information to log in, What should I do?
A: Either your unit of government does not have you on their required list or they provided incorrect contact information for you. Contact your unit of government to resolve this issue.

Q: I was able to log in previously, but now I can't. What should I do?
A: Be sure to click "Already a User?" if you have already registered your account. Make sure you are attempting to log in with the username (it should be your email address) and password you created. If you forgot your password, click on forgot password and a new one will be sent to the email address on file. Still having trouble, please contact our office and we can assist you.

Q: How do I exit the system?
A: Always be sure to click the LOGOUT button on every screen in your filer module. We strongly recommend you use this button to effectively close out your session.

Q: I do not have a computer or Internet access. How can I file?
A: You can visit the County Clerk's office and complete the process while there. Or call our office at (630) 232-5950 to request a paper form by mail be sent to you.

Q: Are filers required to pay a fee?
A: No fee is required when you file by the May 1 deadline. Filers who submit their statement after the May 1 deadline must pay the $15 late fee. If you requested a paper copy of the statement and you return it after May 1, you must include a $15 check or money order payable to the Office of the Kane County Clerk. Failure to file by May 31 may result in forfeiture of office or position of employment. A daily fine of $100 may be put in place to complete this filing.

Q: Who is required to file a Statement of Economic Interest form?
A: Elected officials, appointed officials and employees of Local Units of Government. Names are provided to the clerk's office by the Unit of Government.

Q: When is the Statement of Economic Interest due?
A: May 1 each year. A $15 late filing fee is assessed after May 1. Additional late charges are incurred after May 31.

Q: Where can I file a Statement of Economic Interests form in person?
A: If you are required to file because your name was submitted by a unit of government, a Statement of Economic Interests should be filed online with the information provided in the letter we emailed to you. Statements may also be filed in person at Kane County Government Center, Kane County Clerk's office (Building B) at 719 Batavia Ave, Geneva IL 60134 or at our Aurora office, 5 East Downer Place, Aurora IL 60505.

Q: Can the Statement of Economic Interest form be mailed or faxed?
A: The form should be completed online with the information you received by email in our filer notification letter. If that is not possible, call (630) 232-5950 to request a paper form be sent to you by mail. Completed paper forms cannot be emailed or faxed, if this occurs the form will be returned to the filer, and the filer can mail in the original inked form.

Q: I am no longer with my previous employer. How do I remove my name from your list?
A: Contact that unit of government and they will notify us to remove you from their list. The permissiondirection has to come from the unit of government.
